Dreaming of my Future Home...

Location:

I believe that wherever you are with your family is a good enough place. I understand I won't get the peak of a mountain or my own private lake (both of which I want), but any area that is calming, beautiful and has space is the perfect place for me. I love the look of homes on hills, but I understand the agony behind the driveway, which is my only concern, well and the thought of plate tectonics shifting and the house possibly cracking with it (which will likely happen to every home, eventually).

A quiet place in a valley near some sort of water source (lake, river, stream, ocean) and some-what surrounded by trees is my ideal...

Found in Iceland. I love the bright, yet humble colours.

The Front Door & Foyer:

FRONT DOOR: I love the colourful door idea, and having some personal meaning behind what that colour is. It's the first piece of the house that people will touch, and that is a special opening to the rest of your home. I see the front door as the window to the heart.

FOYER: I like foyers that instantly shout "FAMILY". If you've got shoes on the floor and coats on a rack, people can tell that you actually live in the place. I mean, a cluttered mess isn't what we shout go for, but a busy foyer leads them into thinking that you've done a lot for this house.

Floors & Walls:

FLOORS: I am in love with hardwood floors and this rustic picture below is the most amazing walkway I've ever seen! It reminds me of the floor in an old pub mentioned in a Tolkien novel, once upon a time...
Food floors also beats carpets, because they are easier to clean and you can add a rug if you think it's looking bare. My only turnoff is the expense. These floors aren't cheap.

WALLS (Brick): I love, love, LOVE the brick wall in a home. Even if it seems a little "ghetto", it's totally cool to me and it adds its own uniqueness that doesn't need pictures or art.

(Wallpaper): I also really like wallpaper. It's just so classy and again, adds to a room, without having to much clutter on the walls. For someone who really likes hanging things on the walls, I must admit that it's hard to have a whole room of wallpaper. I think I would go with the 1 of the 4 walls wallpaper and then add some trinkets elsewhere.

(Trinkets & Pictures): I can't tell you how important it is to have things around the house that show who you are. I mean, I love taking pictures, so why not put tons of photos up my staircase? Well, why not? I most certainly will be doing that! It adds to your home, so much! And extra trinkets on bookshelves and desks, sinks and counters or even the walls is also a great way to personalize the space you live in.

Structure:

Lofts, secret rooms, high wooden beams, built-in-the-wall bookshelves, and window seats are all really unique pieces to a house that are hard to find together, unless you build your home or seriously renovate. If I get any of these brilliantly designed flares I will be a happy snowman, I mean girl. These pieces are seriously what adds dimension and originality to a house.

Bathroom:

All I need is a bathroom with the classic tub. It's all I need. I mean, don't get me wrong, a toilet is important too, but a tub is more importanter. A nice window overlooking private land is also a cornerstone feature to a wonderful bathroom...

Bedroom:

There are three C's when discussing a room: cute, comfy, and cozy. If it's the drapery over the windows or the grandmother-made quilt, the main bedroom has to shout: "Hey, spend time in me!" I love my room, full of cool collectibles and the happy moments behind every little decor that hangs from the wall. The bedroom is where it all happens: inspiration, dreams, love, and of course, most importantly sleep after a long hike or camping trip...
